Victoria train derailment could have cost a lot more lives, say police Victoria police acting inspector Peter Fusinato says the scene would have been "horrific" for first responders attending the crash of the Sydney to Melbourne XPT, which derailed near Wallan, killing the driver and train pilot on Thursday evening. Fusinato says given there were 153 passengers on board, the outcome was 'far greater than what you would have anticipated when you first turned up'
