Okay, so as we know, with the coronavirus being spread around like rapid fire, many large events are getting cancelled left and right. South by Southwest just announced their cancellation and it’s looking like Coachella may be next.
The county where Coachella is held, aka Riverside County, just confirmed their first case of coronavirus. Their public health officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser made the announcement on Sunday and said that the whole county is under a public health emergency because of a patient who was recently tested positive for the virus.
Now, the hospital where the patient is staying is literally 25 minutes away from Coachella’s festival grounds in Indio, so this is all happening very close by.
Dr. Cameron Kaiser said that his team is trying to figure out whether this patient has been in contact with others and is trying to find out who else may have been exposed. Which given people don’t usually sit in their home alone all day every day, it’s very possible other people have been affected.
Dr. Cameron Kaiser also said that there have been no decisions made yet about any upcoming events, but I guess only time will tell. That being said, considering South by Southwest’s decision to cancel, Coachella getting axed seems very plausible. TMZ did report that they reached out to the company behind Coachella, Goldenvoice, but have not heard back yet.
