"Maritime insurance plays a vital role for market stability. The relationship we are trying to forge between education and industry is also very important, "Mr. Theocharides noted.

Maritime insurance and financing are two key pillars of shipping, he explained to students.

For his part, Mr. Tsakiris analyzed the roles of various players in the maritime sector and the significant contribution of insurance which allows shipowners to focus on their activities, by providing solutions on classical losses to contemporary threats such as cyberattacks.

"We have recently begun to see claims related to the use of new fuels or the installation of scrubbers. The IMO 2020 regulations are extremely positive for the environment, but the industry was not well prepared, ”he said.

Maritime insurance is here to help shipowners and managers on a proactive basis, offering advice from contracting to unpredictable crises such as today's coronavirus, added Ms Souli.
