A teenage girl has been killed in Central Queensland in a hit-and-run, while walking alongside a road. The 15-year-old was struck at about 3.20am on Sunday morning on Nicklin Drive in the Mackay suburb of Beaconsfield, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe the vehicle involved, which was last seen driving in a westerly direction, would have sustained panel damage as a result.
A Beaconsfield woman who spoke with a young girl about 30 minutes before the fatal hit-and-run told the Mackay Daily Mercury she was devastated to learn of the tragedy.
Mandy Death, who lives opposite the street where the girl was hit, was on her way to work when she spoke with a teenager wearing a pink backpack.
