030220 LIBERTY COUNTY HOMICIDE

030220 LIBERTY COUNTY HOMICIDE At 1:pm this evening a frantic 911 call to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Dispatcher from a shooting victim, reported being Aiden Walker, who told dispatchers that he had just been shot eight times. When the call went out for deputies to respond to the location of #40 CR 3557 in the Grand San Jacinto Sub-Division of north Liberty County in the Plum Grove area, Cpl. Oscar Martinez and two other deputies were close by and responded to the scene within less than a minute.
Cpl. Martinez said that all doors to the mobile home were locked and deputies were unable to make an immediate entry. Knowing that a shooting victim was inside and needed assistance but not knowing if the shooter was still inside the mobile home, Martinez made a precarious entry through a side window where he found Walker deceased on the floor with his cell phone nearby. After opening the door from the inside, the deputies searched the home but found the suspect had already fled the scene.

Martinez said witnesses in the area reported hearing several gunshots and thought the shooter sped away in a red-colored vehicle. As LCSO Investigators conducted the scene investigation, Criminal Investigation Division Commander Capt. Billy Knox reported the alleged shooter had surrendered himself at approximately 3:30 pm and was in custody. The dispatcher’s office confirmed his identity to be 17 year old Samuel F. Depina. Knox later reported that Depina was not cooperating with Investigators and would not discuss the shooting. At this early stage of the investigation, the motive is unknown as is the relationship between Walker and Depina.

Pct. 6 Justice of the Peace Judge Ralph Fuller responded to the scene and ordered an autopsy. The autopsy will determine how many times Walker, who is reported to be in his early 20’s, was actually shot.

The alleged shooter, Samuel F. Depina was placed in the Liberty County Jail as the investigation continues.
