Should the unethical therapeutic technique of "๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ฌ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฑ๐ฒ" be banned or restricted in Michigan & the US? Hint; it's not "Munchausen syndrome by proxy". In coming months or years, "it" - the above phrase which relates directly to Social Work Ethics, and other professional ethics codes pertaining to the Psychotherapy industry, may become part of the US Mental Health lexicon. Maybe a small "thing", or just a blip on the professional ethics radar. But hopefully a “thing”. In this vid I demonstrate in simple terms using examples, how professional ethics codes of the psychotherapy industry are self-contradictory by design, thus generating un-solvable ethical dilemmas. Such renders a large sector of the mental health profession to be structurally flawed by design, emotionally and/or intellectually unsound and dis ingenuous, potentially HARMFUL to clients and third parties, and an un-workable solution for a large sector of the potential client base of those seeking assistance for mental health issues.
A shoddily crafted and un-enforced (or worse yet un-enforceable) code of ethics thus renders, intentionally or not, the profession into a self-perpetuating machine of iatrogenic psychological distress, thus creating increased profits for practitioners by virtue of crazy - making. I cite the contradictory, inherent flaws of the NASW Code of Ethics as a basis for discussion.
I choose to call such practices either "Couples Counseling By Proxy", or "Psychotherapy by Proxy" - take your pick.
Footnote - I made and uploaded this vid on Valentine’s day. Did not plan it that way. How serendipitous and apropos.
