Can I trick out this Pentium III Gateway Laptop with a SSD and Linux without destroying it?

Can I trick out this Pentium III Gateway Laptop with a SSD and Linux without destroying it? In this video, we're attempting to trick out the coolest laptop of 2002 - a Gateway sub-notebook - with a CF card for solid state storage, and the most pragmatic contemporary Linux distro... Hannah Montana Linux!

That's right, no virtual machine tomfoolery - we're installing Hannah Montana Linux on real hardware.

Want to try Hannah Montana Linux for yourself?

Hannah Montana Linux is a "derivative" (read: joke) version of Ubuntu's Kubuntu flavor, albeit based on a very old version. It's based on Kubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, which came out in 2009 and reached end-of-life in 2010 - an eternity in Linux terms.

This Linux is fully functional, but can't be easily updated and has a number of bugs. For example, when I hit the function key to increase screen brightness, the mouse disappears!

The PIII Gateway handles it like a champ, though. Could this creaky old laptop be the ultimate old linux computer?
