Andy Romagnano on his opposition to and plan to stop further beach privatization in Florida

Andy Romagnano on his opposition to and plan to stop further beach privatization in Florida I begin with a brief history of economic development in Florida and then talk about the issue of beaches and how broad beach access has always been the critical part of economic development in Florida certainly since Governor Broward drained the Everglades and discuss my opposition to the current trend of the privatization of public beaches in Florida and why this trend if it continues will wreck the economy and future of the state and I lay out my plan to end this which would be passage of a bill modeled on the Sikes Act of 1960 and based on the scheme Fairhope, Alabama originally platted land grants on to where the federal government would "lease" all public beaches in Florida from the state paying an annual fee to the state therefore but the only thing "leased" would be that Florida would agree to keep said beaches public and not utilize them for private use and and that they would be up for renewal in 99 years but this would bring money into the treasury and my argument is DC will pass it because Florida beaches are effectively a "national" resource but this way respects state's rights and the 10th Amendment and brings money into Florida coffers which can then be directed towards other areas.
